Illawarra Cutters

Illawarra, a direct feeder for the St George Illawarra Dragons, are a club exclusive to the Intrust Super Premiership NSW; while teams from the Illawarra Steelers still compete in junior reps competitions and the Illawarra Cutters had competed between 2012 and 2016, the franchise will now be known simply as Illawarra. Hosting home games at WIN Stadium and UOW Jubilee Oval, Illawarra maintain a high standard of Rugby League in the region and have already been responsible for significant stocks of NRL talent. Always competitive in the competition, Illawarra took out the ultimate prize in 2016 with a 21-20 Grand Final defeat of Mounties; it was their maiden title and the first piece of silverware for an Illawarra side since dual junior reps premierships 20 years previously.

In 2017, however, it seems as though Illawarra might pay for their success, with highly-successful coach Jason Demetriou leaving after just one year in Wollongong. Also leaving this side are a number of key members of the premiership-winning outfit, who have been awarded opportunities elsewhere as a reward for their efforts. It will be a challenge to go back-to-back in the upcoming season, but the resilience of Illawarra can never be discounted.
