Having long been a Rugby League powerhouse in Sydney's South West, the Mount Pritchard Mounties (simply known as Mounties) took their efforts to a new level in 2012, aligning with the Canberra Raiders for their first season in the Intrust Super Premiership NSW. The Raiders, who had been absent from the competition since 2008, might seem like an odd partner for Mounties, situated 250km up the Hume Highway from the nation's capital. In recent years, the deal has been a success, thanks to back-to-back minor premierships in 2015 and 2016; the club also finished on top of the ladder in all three senior men's grades last season, completing the feat for the first time in 22 years. Unfortunately for the men in black and gold, however, they have failed to take out the premiership on either occasion, with a heartbreaking 21-20 defeat to the Cutters capping off the 2016 season.

Like all clubs, Mounties will struggle to maintain a similar roster from the one which was so dominant last year, but retain respected coach Steve Antonelli for the upcoming season. Sharing their home games between Canberra's GIO Stadium and Hinchinbrook's Aubrey Keech Reserve, Mounties will again be driven to go one better than 2016.
